Private folder cannot be viewed if the default Google account does not have access

Summary

When you embed a restricted folder while the default account does not have access to it, you will get a request access Google page, even when the account that has access is logged in. Login access is limited due to a known issue with embedding a restricted file from Google drive.

Environment

  • Confluence DC/Server

Cause

Limitations with Google drive that embed restricted folders.

Workaround

Workaround 1: Set correct default account

  1. Log out from all Google accounts.

  2. Login with the account that has access to the restricted file
    • Optionally, login with any other non-default accounts and you will still be able to view the folder content.

Workaround 2: Access the folder in a new tab

You can use the Open Folder button to open the folder in a new incognito tab  as long as you are logged in with the account that has access to it. Optionally paste the folder link in a Chrome window of a different Google user, as long as the Google user has access to the folder.
